RED JANE

 At first, I never really believed in my art and my ability to use charcoal effectively. But trying and being persistent eventually led to sweet results. Stare all you want, you'll never know what Red Jane's thinking.

POP MERICA

A pop art take on vintage America is how I see it. Andy Warhol may be rolling in his grave right about now. I know I ought to learn my way around Illustrator and Photoshop to shoot out such work, but MAKE ME. I'm too cool for school (LOL).

SKETCH TO THRILL

AC/DC was one of the first few hard rock bands I loved with all my heart. I remember how we would zone out to their music and sport their T-Shirts everywhere in college. Their songs along with Metallica, Slipknot and COB helped me vent, bond with people and deal with life's rubbish. Good times. 
 I know that a band like AC/DC isn't the colorful or artistic type, but I wanted to experiment nonetheless. Well you know, I'm awesome like that. Different levels of intricacy and creativity can be seen here. Along with the background doodles, I used geometric shapes of different sizes. A beautiful clash between two styles of art, eh? 

Colour pencils, black gel pens and *surprise surprise* MS paint were used to make this. I drew it all on an A4 sized paper and then worked on it some more on my laptop. To own this artwork, please shoot me a mail on artantraa@gmail.com

THE AWESOME FOURSOME

The Beatles have been a rave since their conception. When Lennon sang 'Twist and Shout', oh God help me. I drew these old school rockstars and decided to incorporate some of my favorites songs. How many can you guess, eh?

THIS FOREST CALLED LIFE (Framed)

Life puzzles me. I guess the same applies to you, huh. I find it more like a 'trip' through a dense forest where only a few make it out in peace or pieces. This forest isn't always dark and scary, but rather a mixture of events and experiences that add colour to our lives. Some bright... some dark. Being in your 20's  ain't easy. You're at that stage where you can't consider yourself a kid nor are you great at "adulting". People expect you to start earning and soon get married with all those rubbish demands and conform to societal norms, but still never really take you seriously as a somewhat "adult". We fall in the grey/gray area. Well I assume that's limited to me this time. Who knows? I'd like to know that I'm not alone. I  think that we're all just kids lost in this forest called life where some of us would rather panic and scream around for help than play and use the forest to our advantage. I've experienced both I guess.
This painting was done on a 12x16 inch canvas board. Ordinary Charcoal sticks with Derwent charcoal supplies, gel pens and Camel Acrylic paint were used. I also used a paint knife for the effects in the background. So much fun. To buy this piece, please send me a mail on artantraa@gmail.com

SNOW LOVIN' (Framed)

YouTube and Google have been haunting my browser history as I have been searching for more inspiration and techniques to broaden my "artistic horizons". Through these two saviors, I stumbled upon various art related websites, blogs and videos. I was happy that I finally found something worth stalking! FYI, it had something to do with knives.....

Calm down. I'm talking about knife painting.

 I've always wanted to play in the snow and roll in it. I'd imagine myself waking up to some jasmine tea or hot chocolate as I bit into some waffles covered in whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles and freshly cut strawberries. I also imagined making my own 'Fort Awesome' and smiting people in the face with snowballs. I envy you guys who get to experience this and so much more. I could easily head up north for that, but i'm just one big talker. The closest thing I've got to a snowy experience is some white stuff floating around in a "snow"globe. Wait. It's not even white. More like *sparkly* stuff. I guess I should probably hand it over to a Twilight fan huh. Eh? Eh?  I made this snowy landscape on a 9 x12 inch canvas board from Fine Art using Camel acrylic paints. INFECTED MUSHROOM (Original Unavailable)

Unlike the trance band, this infected mushroom's all about detailed artwork. Sitting at 2 am, unable to sleep, I decided to spill my creativity on paper. Hence, this. I got tired of colours and decided to try my luck with black gel pens on white artist's paper. Not bad, eh?  It's got a bit of an ethnic touch to it, because I'm proud of my nationality et al. LOL. This piece is perfect for the crowd that's into psychedelic designs and doodles as I've been told repeatedly. It would look even better on a coloured  wall to add contrast.

A MASK

As I mentioned in the 'About' section of this blog, I draw what I see and inspires me. Recently, I visited this quaint little flea market that sold interesting antique items ranging from accessories, home decor to clothing. Various masks from different countries caught my eye - The Maori one in particular. I was amazed by the level of detail and symmetry on each mask. Every swirl and line had a crisp and pointy edge. Since I was going through an artist's block, a friend suggested this theme. Space, creatures and whatnot.  I was very pleased with the result, and so were others. Lets just say the original's no longer available teehee.

This piece has got the Andromeda Galaxy in her Greek Goddess form, playing a passive role. I improvised and added the alie
n, Kang from The Simpsons for comedic effect, and for just the opposite, a defenseless against an attack of sorts. All she has is Uranus to hide behind *Pause for laughter*. Both probably won't survive. Heh.

BOMBAY TO MUMBAI

Bombay is the New York of India, or so I've been told. I have lived all my life in crazy Mumbai, and I've grown quite comfortable, or should I say lazy to simply pack up and leave. Sure sure, there's the never ending traffic, pollution and steep prices, but hey! It's got good things to offer too- The lifestyle, entertainment, attractions and of course, the food. Anyone who's someone can make it here, as they call it the city of dreams. It's the home of Bollywood for God's sake.

I used gel pens, textured art paper (A4 size) and markers to whip up this hot mamma. Photo editing softwares were used here and there too. Adding a certain level of quirkiness, hopefully it's a non faux pas here! For those of you who live, eat and sleep Mumbai, BUY THIS, EH? GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. (Original Unavailable)

Ah..Queen. No, not her royal highness, but the band we will always love so dearly. Bohemian Rhapsody being the obvious favorite always came to the rescue when I wanted to test my new headphones. Freddie Mercury was one radical heartthrob who captured a million hearts, including mine. *Sigh* 
That flamboyance, that stage presence, that voice and THAT JAWLINE!
It hurts that I wasn't around for any of his concerts. Stupid year of birth :(

Queen's songs were comparatively more creative and dynamic than the pathetic excuse we call 'music' today. I wish I could simply get into the Dlorean and travel back in time to when this majestic band was at its peak. Doc, a little help here? Anyway, here's to Queen and hope towards Freddie's reincarnation.

I drew the band on an textured A4 size art paper. To me, they're like the sultry angels of music with halos that resemble crowns. hence, Queen. Geddit? No? Ok :(
